Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome to Dexter Southfield!

I hope that you take a few moments to explore our website. You will find information about our philosophy, curriculum, and programming in each of the three divisions (lower, middle, upper); details about transportation, our hallmark public speaking program, and robust offerings in athletics, the arts, and extracurricular activities; photos and descriptions of our beautiful campus and state-of-the-art facilities; and so much more.

After you click through the site, I hope you schedule a visit. As helpful and informative as I hope you find these pages, nothing compares to being on campus, meeting our faculty and students, and experiencing Dexter Southfield for yourself. There isn’t an audio clip in the world that will give you the same feeling as sitting in our outdoor amphitheater, listening to a student chorus. Or standing among friends and family cheering on a first-time swimmer or a varsity athlete. Or the laughter that emanates from our natural Playscape as students play and learn there.

Our unique educational model progresses from single-sex education in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5 to coordinate single-sex programs in the middle school, to, finally, a co-educational upper school that also benefits from single-sex program features. And, yet, a Dexter Southfield education does not end there. We place a high value on developing character, compassion, and communication – skills that last a lifetime.

This is a School where tradition meets innovation. Here, an engineering enthusiast can discover a love of Latin, while exploring new interests in the arts and practicing a new sport. We provide our students with endless possibilities and let them do the rest. It is quite amazing to watch – and we invite you to do so.

I look forward to seeing you soon,

Todd Vincent
Head of School
