Third Annual Wellness Day

Upper school students spent Wednesday, January 23, focused on aspects of health and wellness. The School’s third annual Wellness Day began with a presentation from Andrew Onimus, director of corporate programs of Minding Your Mind. Andrew spoke about mental health issues he has learned to cope with. He discussed the importance of letting people in and allowing yourself to ask for help when you need it. His story highlighted the importance of seeking help right away, and not letting symptoms and signs of depression and anxiety lead to any additional self-harm.

Andrew discussed a few tell-tale signs for depression and anxiety, to help students better understand any initial warning signs in themselves. friends, or loved ones.

He also mentioned how each person who struggles with mental health issues had to test out the right "recipe for recovery." For example, his recipe consists of a combination of going to therapy, taking medicine, and introducing positive coping skills in his daily life.

Throughout the day, students participated in interactive workshops, which included the powerful benefits of exercise, sleep, the arts, and nutrition, among other important discussions. Upperclassmen also engaged in mental and physical exercises, such as yoga, brain games, chess, dodgeball, and basketball.

The day concluded with an appearance of a therapy dog on campus supplying the community with affection, comfort, and love.
