Info for Classes 9 & 10

The Road to College

Class 9

  • Take classes that are appropriately challenging for you.
  • Work hard and do your best in school.
    • Pay attention in class.
    • Bring all necessary materials.
    • Take notes.
    • Build a positive relationship with your teacher.
    • Ask for help when you have questions or feel confused.
    • Seek help from Academic Support regarding organization and study skills.
  • Get involved: play a sport, participate in the arts, join a club, find a service project you enjoy.
  • Start keeping a personal journal – try to write in it at least once or twice a week; this will give you practice for the personal writing you’ll do in your college essay.
  • Take care of yourself; stay healthy.
  • Take appropriate SAT Subject Tests in June if you are recommended to do so.

 

Class 10

  • Take classes that are appropriately challenging for you.
  • Take the PSAT; this is practice for next year’s PSAT.
  • Work hard! Work on building on the foundation of strong study skills and a positive work ethic that you built last year.
  • Ask questions, participate in class discussions, be bold and unafraid to be a curious, eager learner! Seek out more information about topics that interest you.
  • Continue participation in activities that interest you: sports, drama, art, service, etc. Work on finding a balance in your life between academics, activities, family, friends and fun; they are all important parts of who you are.
  • Find something constructive, educational and fun to do over the summer. You might want to get a job, volunteer, learn a new hobby, try something new, face a fear!
  • Keep writing in your personal journal – look back at how you’ve grown since last year.
  • Make sure you are getting enough rest!
  • Take appropriate SAT Subject Tests in June if you are recommended to do so
