Mathematics

Mathematics is the universal language. Students learn to draw conclusions from information found in various resources. They will develop an understanding of mathematical operations and procedures and use them to test the reasonableness of solutions. All courses are problem-centered.

Class 6

Students in Class 6 review and master all the basic skills necessary to successfully transition from arithmetic to the process of algebraic thinking in preparation for Pre-Algebra in Class 7.

Class 7: Pre-Algebra

The Class 7 Pre-Algebra course builds upon the skills, habits, and appreciations that were developed in Class 6, expanding students’ foundational knowledge of integers, fractions, and decimals by incorporating variables and including all real numbers.

Class 8: Algebra 1

The Class 8 Algebra I course seeks to build within each student the important academic habits needed for success in a rigorous secondary school math program and to foster an appreciation for mathematics as the language of science and technology. As such, the Algebra I course teaches students to relate numerical and algebraic principles to real-world situations, to develop an understanding of algebraic operations, and to explore ways to gather, interpret, and display many types of data.
