FAQs

We are happy to assist in answering any questions you may have. Please view our most frequently asked questions regarding the admissions process at Dexter Southfield below. If you still have questions, please contact the Admissions office at 617-751-3600 or email admissions@dextersouthfield.org.

What are the typical admissions entry points?

Dexter Southfield reviews application files for and typically offers admission to a select number of students at every Class level. After Kindergarten, the most common entry points are Classes 6, 7, and 9.

What is the application deadline?

Applications for all Classes are due by January 15, with decisions posted on March 10 for those applicants who apply by January 15. For applicants outside the regular admission process, the process is rolling, on a space-available basis, and folders are reviewed as they become complete.

Is there an application fee?

The application fee is $50 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants.

What standardized tests are required for admission to Dexter Southfield?

For Kindergarten through Class 5, standardized testing is not required. For Classes 6-12, applicants must take either the SSAT or the ISEE examinations. Information on these tests can be found online at www.ssat.org and www.erbtest.org respectively. The Dexter Southfield SSAT Score Recipient Code is 222607.

Does Dexter Southfield host Open Houses?

Dexter Southfield hosts Open Houses during the fall. Please check the admission homepage for scheduled dates. It is important to note that attendance at an Open House does not replace the individual parent visit required for admission to Pre-Kindergarten through Class 5, or the individual parent/student visit required for Classes 6-12. Individual parent and parent/student visits provide an opportunity for families to see classrooms in action, to learn about and discuss in more detail the curriculum and philosophy of the School, and to ask any questions on an individual basis.

Does Dexter Southfield offer financial aid?

Limited need-based financial aid grants are available. To receive financial aid application materials, please contact the Financial Aid office at 617-751-3624.

Where do most Dexter Southfield students live?

Dexter Southfield students come from over fifty communities in eastern Massachusetts. Transportation to and from school is provided by our fleet of faculty-driven school buses from central locations throughout Greater Boston, Metro-West, and the South Shore.
