Choir is mandatory for students in Classes 4-5. It teaches vocal technique, as well as the ability to pick out specific lines in two-part vocal scores. Students will add a wide range of styles to their repertoire, from classical to pop. Performances include the Christmas Concert, and Spring Music Festival.
Glee Clubs are optional for Classes 6-8, and provide a natural progression from Choir in that students now tackle three-part harmony and a more challenging repertoire and vocal technique.
There are two a cappella groups with which Upper School students can perform. The all-male Dextones and all-female Southfield Singers perform at the annual Christmas Concert, Arts Night, and other venues like all-school meetings, alumni/ae events, talent shows, and occasionally opportunities off-campus. The groups also provide opportunities for solo performances.
