The Dexter Southfield Boys’ Rowing team takes pride in its dedication, determination, and competitiveness. The vast majority of our oarsmen have never taken a stroke before they join the team. Many are looking to build fitness for cross country, swimming, hockey or football. They are drawn to rowing by the challenge and fellowship of making fast boats.

Our training is structured to build endurance, strength, technique, and toughness. The team rows coxed fours out of its own boathouse on the upper Charles River, in Dedham. We also incorporate time on the rowing machine and in the weight room to build fitness and power.

We compete against schools in the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association each Saturday in the spring. In 2016 and 2017, the boys’ first boat won the petite final at the NEIRA Championships, and strives to send all four varsity boats to the regatta every season. Due to their dedication and hard work, alumni of the program have gone on to row at Princeton, George Washington, Colby, the United States Military Academy, Union, Hobart, and many other highly competitive and respected colleges and universities.
