Faculty members spent yesterday in division-specific workshops where discussions ranged from diversity and equity to implicit and explicit language and curriculum. Upper school faculty members also learned how to make three-dimensional models using the 3D printer. These days dedicated to professional development support our faculty and provide time to reflect on the school year to continuously improve the community.

The Clay Center has served as the communication hub for the Boston Marathon's race day operations for the past decade. The School hosts the Marathon's Amateur Radio Team for the Course and Transportation Network Center. Our Amateur Radio Club members learn and observe alongside Boston Marathon volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students to see a communications team work a public safety event at a grandiose scale.

Ms. Briody's Class 1 boys spent today's science class learning about the difference between kinetic and potential energy. They watched marbles change from having potential energy to kinetic as they let them go down the marble runs! The boys also listened carefully to the different sounds the marbles made on the wooden tracks and theorized about why they sounded certain ways.

Our Upper School Dance Troupe competed in the EnerGy Dance Competition this weekend where they won top score in their division and received the “Danced From the Heart” award. Congratulations to Evelyn Kearney '22 and Katelyn Hamm '22 for their terrific work and achievements!

Class 3 student Christian Figueroa is the newest correspondent on the "NESN Clubhouse" Red Sox TV show. Christian will appear in kid-friendly segments and occasional field pieces at Fenway Park for the Emmy Award-winning pre-game show. Tune into NESN this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and every Sunday one hour before each game this season to catch his quick geography, history, and player segments of our World Champion Red Sox! His parents credit the Dexter Southfield Public Speaking program with helping to prepare him for this amazing opportunity. Way to go, Christian! We can't wait to watch!

The School has announced “Building a Better Tomorrow,” a $15 million project that will transform the campus and improve the student experience for all grades. Dexter Southfield will break ground this June on the project’s major component, a new lower school complex for grades Pre-K through Class 5. Read more:

Family and friends are invited to see the upper school winter play, "Hamlette," tonight, March 7, and tomorrow, March 8. This spoof of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is guaranteed to provide many laughs! The performance will run from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the Clay Center Lecture Hall. We hope to see you there!

Due to the winter weather, all campus activities and events have been canceled for Saturday, March 2, 2019. This includes the Admissions Skate Party, Open Family Skate, and Open Puck & Skate. Note: The Fan Bus traveling to the boys hockey game at Salisbury is still scheduled to depart from campus at 9:30 a.m.

Class 5 boys and girls visited the observatory to learn about our telescope and how it operates. They also learned about the structure of the telescope by viewing the front of it and observing the lens elements.
