Counselor-in-Training Information

We are now accepting CIT applications for our 2020 season!
All applications are due on March 31, 2020.

We feel that the best way to learn how to be a leader is by playing an active role in our camps. Dexter Southfield will give students and former campers ages 14 and up the opportunity to apply for a Counselor-in-Training position through our online staff application. If selected, they will become a part of our camp staff family.

Counselor-in-Training eligibility and availability requirements

Year Required experience Time commitment  Position receives 

Year 1

   Must be 14 years old at the start of camp.   

 4 weeks Volunteer hours

Year 2

   Completed year 1 or have the relevant experience.   

 6 weeks Hourly rate

Year 3

   Completed year 1 and 2 or have the relevant experience.   

 6 weeks Hourly rate

Application process

Each CIT hopeful will be asked to fill out the same application as our staff members. Applicants: please be sure to apply for a Counselor-in-Training position for your appropriate year AND any counselor position with the camp of your choice as you fill out the online application.

Once we have received your online application, we will set up a time for an interview should we want to move forward with the hiring process. If selected, CITs in year 1 will receive confirmation of their volunteer hours at the end of the summer and those in year 2 and 3 will be paid an hourly rate.

2020 Expectations

  • Complete a CPR, AED and First Aid certification course on Thursday, June 11, 2020.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly training seminars and meetings while working at camp.
