School Counselor Connections

School Counselors serve as a resource for all students PreK–Class 12.“We want students to feel their best and be their best,” shares School Counselor Micheala Reale. Through targeted divisional programming, the counselors promote wellness in the community so that students of all ages may thrive. “We focus on fostering relationships with students so that they feel comfortable and confident visiting us," says Mrs. Reale. Programming begins in the Lower School so that students understand the support available to them and can rely on the Counseling Office as needed.

Last week, Mrs. Reale read Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes to Girls' Kindergarten. In the book, Wemberly worries about everything, especially when preparing to start school for the first time. Wemberly eventually discovers that school is very much fun and nothing to worry about. The Kindergarten girls discussed connections between the reading and their emotions, as well as showed Mrs. Reale their drawings of what worry looks like to them.

Lunch Bunch, another Lower School program hosted by the Counseling Office, allows Classes 1–5 to spend time with their classmates outside the classroom. Counselors guide lunchtime discussions on important social-emotional topics like kindness, confidence, and empathy. They also help students learn to think before they speak and share their thoughts respectfully. Recently, Boys' Class 2 shared a special lunch with School Counseling Intern Ms. Torey Halligan and talked about positive feelings and the importance of good manners and respecting others.
