The Cum Laude Society is a prestigious national high school honors society that recognizes students for their scholastic achievement, demonstration of character, and devotion to excellence. The Cum Laude Society was founded in 1906 and is dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools. Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the Society has grown to more than 380 Chapters located in public and independent schools in the United States, Canada, England, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
Selection is based on careful consideration of scholarship, character, and devotion to excellence over a student's entire high school career. Membership, however, is more than an honor; students incur a responsibility to continue to demonstrate outstanding qualities.
Head of Upper School John Booth reflects on the Upper School Assembly dedicated to recognizing the inductees. “As Head of Upper School, it gave me tremendous pride to introduce our twelve fall Cum Laude selections in front of their peers and teachers. This group of students represents the very best of the Dexter Southfield experience,” shares Mr. Booth. “Their selection was based on careful consideration of scholarship, character, and devotion to excellence during their entire high school career, and I am confident they will continue to demonstrate the outstanding qualities that led to their selection.”
