In the Upper School, students study their interests more deeply and learn to discern the difference between hobbies and strengths. We prepare students for a college-level experience through a challenging and robust course list. In addition to the standard core subjects, students may take courses to explore career options, such as entrepreneurship, finance, and medical science. We offer a schedule that allows for flexibility in the coursework, whether traveling to one of our Boston partner institutions for further study, participating in an internship, or pursuing independent study.
The College Counseling Office works with all Upper School students, beginning in ninth grade, to develop a plan that meets their goals and needs following Dexter Southfield. Our dynamic team of counselors works with each student and family to find a right-fit college or university where students can be successful and reach their highest potential.
The Upper School is co-ed, encouraging students to work and learn together in preparation for the real world. Through classroom collaboration, advisory discussions, and extracurricular activities, students forge strong bonds of friendship and community.
As the oldest students on campus, Upper School students set an example for younger students in the dining hall, on the playing field, and around campus. Upper School students are often found reading to Lower School students, cheering on a Middle School athletics game, or giving a high-five to their bus buddy. The responsibility of knowing they are role models makes our students stand taller and showcase their leadership qualities.
