Upper School gives students greater independence and the judgment to use it well. Each year brings more freedom and responsibility, supported by teachers, advisors, and coaches who know students well. Classes 9–12 are more than a bridge to college; they are an intentionally designed experience that transforms growing autonomy into authentic leadership, helping students develop the character and confidence to navigate whatever comes next.

With 69 AP and Honors courses, 60+ clubs and organizations, and 16 athletic offerings, Upper School have the freedom to pursue a passion and discover what comes next. Partnerships with institutions like MIT, Northeastern University, Harvard Medical School, and Babson College extend the learning well beyond the classroom. Through design-thinking, hands-on labs, and coursework grounded in collaboration and critical thinking, students are prepared not only for college, but for the opportunities and challenges that follow.

College Counseling Starts in Class 9
We know that choosing the right high school can feel like the first step to choosing the right college. At Dexter Southfield, that journey begins in Class 9, when every student is paired with a College Counselor who partners with families throughout their high school career. From selecting courses and pursuing cocurricular interests to building a college list, students receive guidance grounded in who they are and who they are becoming.
