Assembly
Once a week, students participate in Assembly, a longstanding Dexter Southfield tradition that brings together the community by division. Assemblies reinforce our community values, focus on important life lessons, allow time for reflection, and provide opportunities for our students to lead.
Assemblies feature the reading of the School’s Declarations, delivered by students within the division, and guide students in being considerate audience members—from walking into Fiske Hall silently, to appreciating a musical performance by a faculty member or fellow student, to listening attentively to those presenting.
Each Assembly features a Senior Capstone Speech, the culmination of the School’s Public Speaking program. These addresses are deeply personal and filled with inspiring and motivating messages as seniors reflect on their experiences and prepare to lead beyond Dexter Southfield. Our Seniors demonstrate poise and strength of character, serving as role models for their Upper School peers as well as for Lower and Middle School students.
