Dining
Through SAGE Dining Services, Dexter Southfield students enjoy delicious and healthy lunches and snacks. Simple and high-quality menus encourage students to engage with their food choices and feature fresh, seasonal ingredients that are locally sourced when possible. The Dexter Southfield garden—with more than 50 types of plants and flowers—provides many fresh vegetables for the community to enjoy.
Our beautiful light-filled dining rooms and outdoor dining areas create warm and friendly spaces for students to gather for meals, meetings, and studying.
Dexter Southfield is a nut-aware campus, and allergy-aware menus are available at every meal.
The food is so good. I love meeting my friends for lunch and having time to catch up between classes. There are so many options from the salad and sandwich bars to the hot meal, pasta station, and performance station. I love the special theme stations—like the nacho bar, build-your-own burritos, and West African cuisine.

Each year, Mr. Thomas works with students to grow vegetables from the School garden. In the spring, Lower School students plant tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and string beans during science class. In the fall, students harvest their crops and share them with SAGE Dining to use for lunches.

Last spring, Class 3 girls from Mr. Chandler’s science classes worked with Mr. Thomas in the school garden to plant indigo seeds. This fall, Ms. Scherzer’s Class 7 art students harvested the indigo, made their own dark blue dye, and created beautiful Japanese shibori fabric prints.
