Dining Services

Dexter Southfield is committed to providing students with a healthy, delicious, and enjoyable lunch and snack program. Our food service provider, SAGE Dining Services, offers simplified foods with high-quality ingredients that allow students to be more engaged with their food choices. Meals are designed with seasonality and freshness of ingredients in mind—with locally sourced foods used whenever possible.  Dexter Southfield also sources from its own School garden, which features 46 types of plants and flowers, including six varieties of tomatoes. Dexter Southfield is a nut-free campus.

Lower School

Lower school students are served snack in their classrooms and eat lunch family-style in the dining room with their homeroom teacher. Additional School faculty and staff help to facilitate the serving process, paying particular attention to those students with food allergies.

The Lower School Dining Room was renovated in 2019 and includes age-appropriate seating options and multiple handwashing stations.

Each day, the lower school’s menu includes a main option, a vegetarian option, one to two vegetables, a grain, pasta, soup, bread, sun butter, and a full salad bar. Yogurt, apples, and bananas are available, and additional fruit options are offered daily.

Middle School

Students at this level have an assigned seat at lunch, which rotates regularly during the school year. Faculty members, including advisors and homeroom teachers, are integrated into the rotating table assignments. This approach ensures that no child will ever be without a place to eat lunch. During the year, students also have the opportunity to take on leadership positions at lunch. Announcements take place daily.

Options available for lunch include salad, sandwich, and pasta bars; a soup station; a vegetarian option; and a main meal. Yogurt, apples, and bananas are always available, and additional fruit or dessert options are offered daily. Prior to the start of afternoon sports, middle school students also gather in the Dining Hall for an afternoon snack.

Upper School

Upper school students enjoy open seating at lunch.

Daily food options include salad, sandwich, and pasta bars; a soup station; a vegetarian option; and a main meal. Yogurt, apples, and bananas are always available, and additional fruit or dessert options are offered daily.

A full breakfast is provided for students participating in morning athletic practices. Also, a continental-style breakfast is available for students arriving to School early, and snacks are available throughout the day.
