Health & Wellness

Dexter Southfield acknowledges a strong link between a healthy child and an active learner. That is why we are committed to supporting your child’s physical, social, and emotional well-being as much as their academic success.

School Counselor
At Dexter Southfield, we are committed to supporting your child’s social and emotional well-being as much as their academic success. To foster the emotional health and well-being of the school community school counselors are available to children in PreK-Class 12. School counselors are valuable resources for children, families, and faculty, and they work together with homeroom teachers, advisors, deans, the nurses, and academic support staff to facilitate integrated plans for children who may need additional support. In addition, they can facilitate a referral to outside resources when the need arises. Your child may sign up for an appointment or just drop in. Information shared with the counselors is private and treated with confidentiality within the limits of safety and the law.

School Nurses
Our nurses assess and treat ill and injured children, administer medications and other physician-ordered treatments, assist children with chronic disease management, and ensure that all health interventions performed for the benefit of children are conducted within current Massachusetts state laws and Department of Public Health regulations. Each July, you will be asked to update your child’s medical record through Magnus Health, a HIPAA-compliant electronic medical system used by the School.

Athletic Training
Dexter Southfield’s athletic trainers are responsible for providing health care services designed to prevent injury and maintain the athlete’s ability to compete at the highest level. They work in collaboration with the School’s full-time strength and conditioning coach. For more information, learn about our Athletic Training program.
